It’s worse than I thought. Approaching $600mm.

From Gemini:

Total Payroll Including CBT Penalties: Estimated at a mind-boggling $571 million to $581 million.

To put that in perspective, the Dodgers are projected to pay more in luxury tax penalties alone (~$150M+) than nearly half the teams in Major League Baseball are spending on their entire active rosters.

Isn’t the actual payroll COST to the Dodgers closer to or above $400mm including the CBT penalties? Don’t short change their Goliath spending! I see their fans saying it “we only spend this on salaries so it’s not much more than other top teams.” (🙄)

45 year long Padres fan here. Its 5 am here in South Carolina and this time of year I get up early and watch last nights Padres game. Your take pretty much nails it, except for omitting a mention of the most impactful coach in baseball, imo, Reuben Niebla. Last night is a great example:

Top of the 9th and the Padres have made a first inning Miguel Andujar HR stand up and lead 1-0. Mason Miller comes in with all the flames, smoke and death metal music and proceeds to throw ball after ball that the Dodgers spit on and walks the first two hitters. He has no control. Niebla comes out and gives him his version of the “Trust The Force, Luke” speech and after a couple more balls Miller gets dialed in and mows down the next three batters and the Padres win 1-0. Petco was rocking!

King was great, and thats following Giolito’s great start against the Mariners. Another amazing move by Preller getting that guy for $3M. The Padres new owners have to be on Cloud9 after that game last night!
