Padres Mailbag: Holding on by a thread
The San Diego Padres are getting dangerously close to losing their playoff position after losing two games in a row to teams that they should beat.
Welcome! The San Diego Padres have a 1.5 game lead (and hold the tie-breaker) over the Milwaukee Brewers and lost their second straight game last night. The Padres are 4-6 in their last 10 games, while the Brewers are 6-4 in their last 10 games.
If the Padres want to actually make the playoffs, they’re going to have to play a little better than what we’ve seen over the last couple of days. They’re going to have to find ways to beat the pretty much all of the non-Dodgers teams on their schedule, meaning they’ve got to win at least two of their next three games against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Last season, we knew by now that the team was collapsing out of the playoffs. This year is different, but the result very well could be the same. The Padres could play just okay for the next three weeks and still send up outside of the playoffs looking in. At some point, that sense of urgency will need to be seen on the field. So far, it’s not there.
Onto the mailbag questions…
