The Padres bullpen needs patience more than help

The biggest weakness of the 2022 San Diego Padres appears to be the bullpen, but I believe they already have the tools to fix the issue.

I want to give you some rankings of the San Diego Padres bullpen before we talk about them in more detail:

  • 23rd in ERA

  • 9th in WHIP

  • 11th in BB/9

  • 13th in K/9

  • 7th in H/9

  • 24th in HR/9

This is going to sound silly and obvious, but if the Padres bullpen could cut down on the home runs they’re allowing, they would be good enough. Here are all the guys that have given up more than one HR out of the ‘pen for the Padres this year:

  • Robert Suarez (3)

  • Steven Wilson (3)

  • Craig Stammen (2)

  • Dinelson Lamet (2)

  • Wil Myers (2)

Hey, I’ve got some good news for you. Dinelson Lamet isn’t on the team anymore and those HRs Myers gave up don’t matter.

Don’t worry, that’s not the end of the analysis. I want to dig into Suarez and Wilson in today’s post. And maybe talk about how good and weird this bullpen might get.
