Padres: Eric Hosmer is playing like a man on a mission

It wasn’t very long ago that we were all worried and complaining about the 2022 San Diego Padres offense. For some reason, it seemed like their best case scenario was scoring 2 runs per game.

Since then, they haven’t changed much. Luke Voit and Wil Myers returned. That’s basically it. And, from a season-long perspective, the offense is still lagging a bit:

  • 22nd in batting average

  • 12th in on-base percentage

  • 17th in OPS

  • 7th in runs scored

  • 19th in home runs

That’s not great! But here’s another fun stat:

  • The Padres have scored 5+ runs in their last five games.

  • The Padres have scored 5+ runs in their last eleven road games.

Five runs is definitely enough if you’re getting it that consistently. I’m going to attempt to figure out how they’ve been scoring so well, and so consistently, over the last couple of weeks (away from Petco Park).
